Anima Christi – Ettore Pozzoli

Anima Christi is a Catholic prayer. The author is uncertain but many believe it to be Pope John XXII. The text has been set to many musical compositions including those by Lully and Valentini. This setting is by Ettore Pozzoli (1873 – 1957). He was an Italian classical pianist and composer best known for his works on theory, solfeggio and studies for the piano. Many thanks to Swell Vox member Tony Lee, for his excellent solo rendition of this piece.

Sanguis Christi, inebria me.
Aqua lateris Christi, lava me.
Passio Christi, conforta me.
O bone Jesu, exaudi me.
Intra tua vulnera absconde me.

Ab hoste maligno defende me.
In hora mortis meae voca me.
Et jube me venire ad te,
Ut cum Sanctis tuis laudem te,
