CHORALE PRELUDE ON EASTER HYMN – HEALEY WILLAN

I am delighted to present my interpretation of Healey Willan’s Chorale Prelude on “EASTER HYMN,” a stirring work for organ that celebrates the joy of the Easter season. Drawing inspiration from the well-known hymn tune “EASTER HYMN,” this chorale prelude showcases the Canadian composer’s skill in weaving together harmony and counterpoint to create a truly inspiring musical experience.

Healey Willan (1880-1968) was a prolific Canadian composer, organist, and teacher who played a significant role in shaping the landscape of church music in North America. With a remarkable output of over 800 compositions, Willan’s work spans various genres, including organ and choral music, chamber pieces, and operas.

“EASTER HYMN” is a well-loved hymn tune that has become synonymous with the joy and triumph of the Easter season. Willan’s chorale prelude on this tune is a fitting tribute to the hymn’s enduring legacy.

I recorded this on the fabulous sample set of Alessandria by @PiotrGrabowski_Organs.
