Psalm Prelude Set 1, No. 2 – Herbert Howells

Herbert Howells was a famous English composer and organist known best for his large output of Anglican church music. This piece is from his Three Psalm-Preludes Op. 32, published in 1921. The only other piece I play by Howells is the “Master Tallis’s Testament” and I came across this Psalm Prelude after hearing my good friend, Callum Knox, play it as a prelude to an Evensong service. Whilst usually I don’t resonate with much of Howells’ music, this prelude did and I’m grateful for being in the right place at the right time! I recorded this on the sample set of Hereford Cathedral by Lavender Audio.
