Variations sur « Plus près de toi, mon Dieu » (“Nearer, My God, to Thee”) – Denis Bédard

On another hot summer’s day, I’m back to recording Denis Bédard’s “Variations on Nearer, My God, to Thee” at St. Patrick’s Church, Albury. It’s a beautiful hymn tune and Denis colours it with his signature harmonies and musical character without going too overboard in the delivery. There are some bittersweet moments in this piece, including a modulation to the parallel minor which is beautiful yet haunting. I hope you enjoy my rendition.
